highly poisonous in just about every aspect ... especially if you have small kids who will put that berry in its mouth ...

In Australia, Solanum nigrum (or Americanum) often does not have the toothed leaves. Yours looks like that.
Solanum are generally regarded as poisonous, despite what the link below says, DO NOT EAT IT. What appears by magic in our gardens is usually dropped by birds and is regarded as a weed. The only solanum which are truly safe to eat are horticulturally developed tomato, potato and eggplant.

;-)Now look here, Ken. Schoolmarm speaking here. Do we have to go over this again? Yes, it seems we do. Atropa belladonna is Deadly Nightshade. It isn't Solanum anything. Check your own link. The picture is nothing like a Solanum in appearance. I expect you to do your homework and improve your 'Nightshade' identification grades asap.

Sorry floral, I disagree; OP's photos look like solanum Americanum to me. Don't eat the berries, Gennesis, they can be toxic.

coleenoz - I agree absolutely that the OP has Solanaum americanum or possibly S nigrum. That's not what I was saying. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I was talking directly to Ken about his persistent confusion between Atropa belladonna, aka Deadly Nightshade, and various Solanums e.g S dulcamara, aka Woody Nightshade, and S americanum, aka American or Glossy Nightshade. If you look at Ken's link you'll see he's put up a picture of Atropa, not of any Solanum.
