I am going to have to go with some type of clematis, as well. The veins on the clematis leaf more closely match your plant's leaves, vs. bougainvillea!

Definitely not bouganvillea, is hardy here in coastal Virginia. And the flowers do not match a clematis. The other vine question i posted may be some sort of clematis but not this one. This has small kind of squared off flowers, smaller than clematis.

Maybe some type of hybrid Clematis. I've linked to C. montana below as a species. Is that what you mean by " squared off"?

Saponaria officinalis was my immediate first thought. In which case it isn't a vine. If you follow the stems down carefully to the ground I think you'll find they are not actually part of the vine at all.

Yes, you are right, I thought it was trying to vine, but just has long floppy stems where it is planted. I am digging it out, it was in the ground beside the garden, and may try it in a container where it should behave, as it kept running into the garden, and give it more sun.
