Name that tree

We have been trying to find out what this tree is. The picture is of the flowers that are on it. In winter it has no leaves but has clusters of branches left over from the flowers and leaves. It also is covered in sharp spikes. I have a picture of the whole tree but could only upload one.
Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: Name that tree

alan66, if you have a Photobucket or Flickr account, you can put multiple photos in a single post by using each photo's html code from the photohosting site. [I don't know about other photohosting sites.]

Otherwise, you can put one photo in each post.

Whatever shows up in Preview is what we'll see in the post. (So if the photo's not there, you'll need to try again.)

Feel free to add more photos!

Also, can you tell us where this tree is planted (roughly: we don't need your town or address)? Also, is this a current photo, and if not, when was it taken? [This info will help the gurus.]

RE: Name that tree

Looks like Erythrina crista-galli to me.

RE: Name that tree
