My mom picked this off a vine in La. Any idea what it is? It's about the size of a softball, quite hard with a very rough skin.

the link says: Toxicity Uncultivated forms, such as those found growing wild in Florida can be poisonous. These varieties contain the steroid, diosgenin, which is a principal material used in the manufacture of a number of synthetic steroidal hormones, such as those used in hormonal contraception.[2] There have been claims[3] that even the wild forms are rendered edible after drying and boiling, leading to confusion over actual toxicity ken ps: really now ... an air potato .. who knew.. and only 9:30 am.. and i learned my new thing for the day.. now i can go back to bed.. lol ..

Thanks all for the info. I've never heard of an air potato. Now I know!

These are very invasive, so I hope you don't plant it. The arboretum here has tried to get rid of it on their property, but can't. (They want a native plant wilderness area, so the invasives are the ones they target for removal).
