i was thinking begonia also ...

now all we have to figure out is if its the bulb type or herbaceous ... and then.. whether it can be propagated ...

it a huge plant.. for a small pot ... and i have never perfected clay pots ... you might do better in a plastic pot... with good media ... in a larger size ....

we will also need to know where you are.. and whether it will be indoors or out for winter.. that does not look like current MI yard... lol ... where a B would be dead .. dead.. dead ...

I believe they're hinting it's a Rex begonia: a type grown for its foliage rather than its flowers.

In Connecticut, indoor plant, was just outside for a shower period this summer.

Looks like a cane begonia. Lots of online info about care of these.

But some are more robust than others.

It does not need to be propagated. It can be cut back a ways for a rounder form or leave the tall canes for a taller form.

Mine can grow four feet high in one season. It does most of its growing in summer and it loves a dappled shade location. It can also grow in winter provided temps are warm and it gets a lot of light.

Keep a bit drier over winter though, especially if a cool location and low-light.
