Would that be yellow nutsedge taken taken from a weird angle?

Well, it's not the yellow nutsedge that's all over my pasture.

I see blades of some sort of tall grass -- definitely not a sedge -- at the left and top. At the lower right is a small clump of greenery.

In the center is a small plant with many of what are either dried-up flowers or opened seed pods. They are a dirty white and blend in with the sandy ground and the dead grass blades lying on the ground.

The flowers/seed pods are most obvious in a diagonal band just below the long blade of grass which runs from the upper left toward the lower right. Once you notice that band, you'll see more of them lower in the photo.

Whatever that plant is, its leaves are either long and narrow, or missing, or basal and not visible.

It reminds me vaguely of dried statice (Limonium), but way too short.

Stonefree, do you remember how tall the plant was, or how wide?
