Tough one to ID

These plants were found in a rocky, roadside ditch this morning. They weren't in very good shape. They ranged to 10 inches tall, and were branched toward the top. All parts were glabrous, except for hairs on the fruits. Larger leaves were 1/3 inch wide and 1 inch long. A few leaves were opposite, but most were alternate and sessile. Stems were unevenly grooved, and square. Leaves had an obvious primary vein, with very faint laterals. Single flowers came from leaf axils. They were on 0.2 inch long pedicels. The only flower I found was wet and in bad shape, but appeared to have some yellow florets or petals. Fruits were about the size of a pin head. They were round (shaped like a pumpkin), with a sharp point at the top. Each fruit had 5 bracts underneath - two outer, large ones and 3 inner, small ones. The fruits separated into 10 wedges each. The wedges were shaped like orange slices, and were grayish-green in color. Fruits had scattered hairs in tufts.
