Apologies for not knowing exactly where you are and where the wildfires are. So sad about those who have died. I hope you and yours are safe.

Hi Whitecat, thanks for the thoughts. Scary pictures on TV. I live in suburban Sydney a long way from the destructive fires.

Thank goodness. And now the area is a crime scene? Goodness gracious.

These fires have been just horrible. I'm so sorry.

Have you seen this video? It just broke my heart, but in a good way.

Hi Kevin, Sam is actually Samantha. Some good news stories are so welcome in these days of GFC and other doom and gloom.

Arthur, glad to know that you are not in the area of the bush fires!

What about Keith???? but...he's in Victoria, isn't he?

RE: Arthur, are you okay?

Keith hasn't posted for ages and ages. Bolero and Corymbosa live in Victoria. Sorry i do not know where, but hopefully away from the fire areas.

Lisa, how are you, and did your orchids survive the change in growing conditions?

Arthur, I'm glad to know you are fine too. Although having been to Sydney, I realize most people live in urban areas a long way from the fires, partially due to the availability of water, strange as that may seem to some of us. It's funny, though, this fire season I live in Orlando and it's not a concern at all, since I can't smell the wildfires burning.

Lisa, I want an update too. The last I saw, you thought the big BC had come back, I was having an issue with the same thing (new doctor) and didn't comment, but I've been wondering how you are doing ever since. Sadly, a friend was diagnosed a couple months ago and is in the middle of that wringer. It's amazing how easy some old wounds reopen.

RE: Arthur, are you okay?

Still struggling. I have extreme pain in my pelvis, I'm trying to figure out if it is muscle or bone. I had a PET in Nov, which was negative. My markers were elevated in January, but the new Doc (I fired the one who was supposedly soooooo good in Columbus after he left me sitting on a table with a drape for 5 hours after fasting the night before and that morning for a bunch of tests...the final insult was that they lost all my mamms, pets, etc. So much for OSU. I have a hard time figuring out what is aging and what is the cancer issue. There's still some funky stuff going on that they can't quite figure out....but I'm still here. :) So...here I am...a stage 4 who's managed to last a whopping 11 years! I'm not complaining even though it seems like everyone is learning on me too and I guess when it comes down to it, there's a heck of a lot more we don't know about long term survivorship on the young than we do. I've actually started blogging about it.

Luna, the Siberian, who's birthdate is 4/10/1994 (no, not a typo) is now suffering from a tumor in her bladder. I've been struggling with different vets and the blood in her urine since Dec. 26. I just finally went back to my vet (she was sent to the Kennel's vet because I was told that the Kennel couldn't get her in to my vet so I was trying to stick with the same vet since lots of good things had been said with the second vet) after three courses of anti-biotics weren't doing anything....and finally got an appropriate diagnosis when I took her in to be euthanized. Talk about a roller coaster...preparing oneself for her demise, and then having him look to see what is wrong and deciding to put it off as she's still vital and doesn't look like there is an issue.

I've lost some orchids. I was really mad when I goofed and skipped some watering so I lost this fall's Paraphal serpentilingua's blooms...I bought it from Bada, and I've managed to bloom it every year I've had it. I was doing really well with some mounties, but I think I've fried some neostylis this winter...not sure what's up with that. I'm doing really well with catts now that I get LOTS of southern sun. I'm still trying to get my phals and some others back into shape as they got a nasty case of scale. Some of the old leaves look pretty bad as I neglected them while getting ready for the move and the move. It seems like phal leaves last forever! (that is...if you don't get them root rotted).

DD is now 16....and it is super scary...I shiver in fright when I get in the car and let her practice driving. She went thru driver's ed, and has her permit...but JEEZE LOUISE! She's not any where near getting her license.

Miss you guys...even if I don't buzz over here very often.

Now that the Big O is back, (she dodges bricks thrown at her even tho she means ORRIN!), maybe things will be more fun. ; )

RE: Arthur, are you okay?

Ah,crappers, and here I am with little time to write. But golly what a nice thing to say Lis. Nice to see you back in the neighborhood too.

I of course am glad to know that you're ok Arthur mate. Wildfires are scary, we certainly get our share in my area. As a city dweller I don't have to worry about them personally, but as a long time nature boy I do anyway (and pretty personally at that, having lived here for almost 20 years now).

I promise to try to be more fun here, but it would be nice if a few more others tried too (you know who you are).
