Houseguest in the orchid room!

When DH teases me about losing "his" 2nd bedroom to "the vegetables" (reference to my wins at the State Fair), I always say to give me an hour's notice, and we can have guests in there to sleep on the futon.

Well, tomorrow night, a good friend is staying with us. Because I've had more than an hour to get ready, and because I want the room to look nice, I'm spending tons of time, not to mention cleaning the rest of the house, where 2 big, long-haired dogs and 2 cats live.

Waaaa! The 2 shelves where most of the orchids are will stay. The 2-drawer file cabinet w/ orchids on top will roll into the LR. That's the easy part. It's all the orchid stuff that won't fit in the closet that's been on the floor and all the orchid stuff on the futon, which makes a great shelf.

Anyone else go through this? Everyone else have orchid spaces that are untouched when overnight company comes?

Everyone survived the transformation of the orchid room into the guest room. It was spartan but comfortable. I calmed down, once our friend got here. It always happens like this.

She has pet rabbits, so she and her hubby don’t have any critters to snuggle with at night. Turns out she was hoping our 2 cats would sleep with her and one of the big dogs would give her a good morning lick on the face. The critters cooperated. Amazing.

Happy ending.

Lucky you!

Last night, my most reliable feline (of 3), after years of trust, pawed the media of one of my prize bromeliads from the pot. I can live with that.

The cat won't be as happy now that I have to "watch" her more carefully!

Stitz - Bummer about the medium. Out on the deck in summer, I've had to cover dirt w/ chicken wire to keep Kerplunk, the Mighty White Spike Killer, from digging up the houseplants.

And he's the one who bit off the only spike on the Psychopsis at the time, but I put it where he usually suns - stupid human.

The other night, when I was hauling all the watering cans, etc. out of the orchid room, Kerplunk wandered in and then out without even sniffing any plants, so I didn't shut both cats in our bedroom. Now, if it'd been later in the year, and there were bugs around, not "BOB," the other cat, would have been locked out - he'll run/jump/swipe anywhere and knock over anything to get a bug.

The sleeping bag at the bottom of the futon has that silver fabric inside that reflects back body heat. Cat magnet. Without that, they might explore more.
