I just noticed your post, and couldn't resist trying to find these "orchid helpers" of yours (especially since "no orchids were harmed in the process"). :)

Let's see...eyes are potting media; nose is noid Dend ; the 2 twigs (or arms) are Onc. intergeneric; mouth 'might be' rotting Catt. leaves; 'fins' are Catt leaves...well, if I get one right, I'll be happy. What is the prize? ;)

We're having a heat wave here, and it's nice to see snow again. :)

Hehe good guesses! Carol - you've got the arms and eyes right on! The 'fins' are actually chunks of ice, the nose is the catt (I forget which part) and the mouth is a rotting dend leaf! And your reward is satisfaction (or perhaps alarm?) that you are sooo into this hobby that you can actually recognize dead pieces of various genera stuck on a snowman! Congratulations! :D (we are having a heat wave here too...felt like 38C outside today...luckily we had some rain showers and that cooled things off)

You had that heatwave a few days ago, when it reached 39 in TO! I asked a Toronto friend how she and her little dog were managing. Th smog made them both suffer coughing fits, especially in the early a.m. 'Hope you're fine!

I feel pretty good about getting 2 right . :) Yes, I've seen my share of dead leaves!

You are right -I am soo into this hobby, or obssession, that I seldom find time to look at the gallery, never mind discussions and conversations. :\

I was away for 6 weeks and came back to find the mealy bugs had fun - it took me almost 6 weeks to get them under control. Maybe in time the mealy bugs will disappear (as they did several years ago), but the scale will always be amongst us. Sigh.

Any way, I'm still mesmerized by orchids, and spend way too much time on them.

P.S. Need to look at your snowman pic again - you did a great job. I never before saw a snowman with a rotten dend mouth. :)
