I'm with you, but for antiques or numbered collectibles... well, they can command good $$.

I've sold some old family stuff on ebay for prices that I would never consider paying.

Just think if you found that skillet at a yard sale, from someone like me who didn't know the true value...

(Just kidding. I don't get it either but apparently some cast iron collectors do)

Now, to bring it around to food as we always do and this time it's appropriate! Don't you just love making corn bread in a cast iron skillet to go with your chili on a cold fall day? I like the technique where you preheat it in the oven and then the batter sizzles when you pour it in. Yum!

I guess when someone gets into an obsession, they're willing to pay anything.

I love making cornbread, period. It's great for breakfast with milk. I've never tried the preheating method, but it sounds exciting, if nothing else. Is the crust on it amazing?

I like them for toasting cumin seeds and pinenuts.

Time to dig out all the cast iron kitchen stuff and put it up on Ebay. I do have a cute three-legged pot that I can probably get a grand for at this rate.

I've got an old Griswold # 9 and a Wagner w/ domed lid. I still cook with them. And the Griswold still has some shiny nickel plating on it. You can tell where my Great-Granma, Grandma, and Mom all scrubbed it. I however do not scrub anymore, I gently wipe and season with bacon grease. Don't make fun or I'll whop ya with my pans.gb

I have the same #13 iron skillet that was a gift from my mother when we got "married"...a real family heirloom that has been passed down 5 generations now.
