54% versus 46%

The difference is gut-burning. If I swallow a match after a mouthful of 108 proof liquor, will I ignite? How close to fuel is this stuff?

(I just learned that the definition of "proof" is diff in the US and the UK. All the more reason to get rid of these quaint measurements.)

Here I was thinking you were talking about the chance of rain....

I'd wait until hitting the grain alcohol before testing ignition.

I started a weather thread 2 years ago - you think I'd try it again?

  • mrbreeze

There you go again....drinking and doing math. I thought I told you how dangerous that can be and that the best plan is to drink until the math makes sense. Or...was it do math until the drinking makes sense? Either way... good luck! Oh, i don't think your vapor pressure is high enough to ignite, but i wouldn't wear polyester when binge drinking, just to be on the safe side.

I've been trying new cocktails lately to try to get out of the Manhattan/Martini rut. Any suggestions? Flammability is optional.

The most recent concoction was from an old Oscar Haimo book. It was called an Argentino and was made with brandy. Not bad, actually.

Try SOHO Lychee. It's a liqueur and it tastes like liquid lychee. Quite amazing. Some of the cocktails are excellent, but I lack the motivation and usually drink it in Pepsi, cretin that I am.

And Ki, the weather thread is still going on! You started something popular.

I dreamt that absinthe is legal and available, and we can now have Impressionist parties. T/F?

  • turkeytaker

T and F look so much alike when marked on tests.

  • Driftless Roots

I believe the answer is T

In the past I attended annual Solstice parties which featured enormous bonfires. The hosts stopped holding them a few years ago and they are missed. Another friend is hosting an urban party on 12/21 and mentioned it won't be the same without a bonfire. I suggested to her that we do flaming cocktails. She doesn't think I'm serious. I will begin testing recipes soon...

When i saw the heading i thought Komi was talking about the Australian Election where the margin was about 54% to 46%.

There is a dessert where they set the spirit alight,,, Bombe Alaska???

There is also a flame war over on discussions so i'm taking shelter here.

  • komi

What is the point if you burn up the alcohol?

There is another dessert that should be served alight. 's called pudding but is actually tipsy fruit cake.

Speaking of US vs other measurements, I believe 54% is known as a landslide over here.

    (oops. Too political.)

Do a lot of people vote in Australia?

I haven't found the flame war yet - may have to wander over for a look. Didn't we just have one? Followed by a group hug?

  • Driftless Roots

What's the point? Drama, baby. Drama. And there's some alcohol left, no problemo.

Flame war? I'm very tempted to peek now.

  • aachenelf z5 Mpls

Are we going to war with Australia? Why do they want to bomb Alaska? LA or Dallas I can understand, but not poor Alaska.

When does this thread turn into something about food?

Flame war: Howard is getting beat up - kind of. At least the place is sort of alive again.

  • komi

WHAT do you have against LA?

I hafta disagree with you on the war too. Howard is getting defended, not beat up.

To add to the summary, I have been called a body, and everyone speaks for me. Or something like that.

  • Driftless Roots

Howard rightfully has his defenders and as usual in online forums typing speed outpaces reading comprehension so I'll stay clear once again.

We are talking about food, Kev my dear! Booze falls under my generous umbrella.

Komi's a body and I believe she's at least somebody. Shall we take vote? I'm predicting a landslide.

At present only the Combustible Edison is making the cut, beveragewise, as so many of the online things I've found are clearly just blazing some 151 on top of any random shot and giving it a "clever" name. My friends and I are better than that.

    only a landslide?

At the rate you are trying new mixtures, they must be both a heat-source and a food-source. I do detect a bit of a superiority thing going on, but hay, self-esteem is good.

I miss coming home to quiche :(

  • arthurm

Do a lot of people vote in Australia? Crikey, cobber, of course they do. If they don't they get fined. (unless they have a very good excuse).

Actually i never use the words Crikey or Cobber in normal conversation.

Sorry, cannot add to the food and drinks side of the conversation. I thought it was Bombe Alaska because the grog (Strong Booze) was poured over ice cream and set alight. But this might all be heresay.

"Has anybody seen a dog dyed dark green.
    bout'two inches tall, with a strawberry blonde fall;
    Sunglasses and a bonnet
and designer jeans with appliques on it?"

The whole idea of setting 'good' booze on fire...
Well, it shakens me to the core! ;~)

"But this might all be heresay."
With everyone burning off the alcohol, would that be heresay or heresy?

I can't believe that I've missed this thread!
Being unable to have grain vodkas anymore, I started drinkin' Luksusowa!:~)
    Dangerously smooth!

When I first tried it, I was used to being able to taste it and it having a lot more of a bite.
    Wow!
After a few large cocktails, I was out in the pasture...bent over for a bale of hay and about kept going! ;~)
Apparently, it took more than I thought for a taste to be there!
I'm thinking of trying Chopin or ...
    Hmmm!
I did have a great 'tater harvest, maybe...

OK, the vote will be unanimous. I think we could engineer that!

Crikey, Arthur! I think you should start a thread over here on any subject of your choosing and we'll keep it free of food talk. Much as I love to discuss sips and nibbles, I would welcome a new line of discussion. What do you say?

  • aachenelf z5 Mpls

I would love a new line of talk, but what could it be? We can't talk about plants or sex or politics or religion and we certainly can't talk about Project Runway. What else is there other than food or drink? Anything else might start a war on this side and that would be disastrous.

  • turkeytaker

  • clairewags

Chess sux. Are we supposed to talk booze, the flame war or fashion here? I'm confused.

  • scott361

    I feel misrepresented!
I've never claimed to be civilized!
It was all a horrible misunderstanding!

    Chess?
    Never learned!
    Flame war?
Let me know when it's over!
    Hmm, fashion?
    I generally don't really care.
Just give me my boots, Levi's, throw in a little Gucci and a few things from Armani, some tasteful diamonds and I'm good to go! ;~)
Simple, classic and fits almost all occasions! :~)
    Booze?
    Yes please!
    Just leave the bottle!

  • Driftless Roots

I've got several good topics I'm thinking of trickling out over the next few days or weeks. It's my hope, nay DREAM, that they'll let us share a laugh, the occasional tear and perhaps think a little.

Or maybe it's just the Chianti talking.

So where are these new, hot topics? I'm waiting.

The thread on the other side is all about TEAM BUILDING. Haven't we all experienced TEAM BUILDING?

  • Driftless Roots

I don't know about the whole TEAM BUILDING thing, but on Wednesday I'm going to be at a meeting on Working Smarter. (I call it Verkingk Schmaaaarter in my head.) Something about harnessing efficiencies.

Think of me during my time of woe.

First in the series of Hot Topics to be posted later this evening.

    cherry anything is gross.

  • turkeytaker

Well...well...YOU'RE gross! (I had to say it)

Does working smarter mean eliminating porn from your office computer time?

  • scott361

    Not if they're wearing glasses!
Or, if rulers are being used as paddles.
I'm just extrapolating based on what I've heard!! ;~)

And if you're not getting caught...
    You're already working smarter, anyway!

  • mrbreeze

I agree that cherry anything is gross, except cherries. Rainier cherries, yum! The red ones sometimes make my TMJ feel a jolt of electricity. Is that normal?

Cherry flavored stuff always tastes like medicine.

I luuuuuuuv the medicine taste of canned, cherry pie filling.
