HAVE: Challenge: Free for postage plus best story: Dend aphyllum

I have Dend aphyllum, 2 8+ in canes, plus new growth, prev bloomed. It is mounted on tree fern right now. Nice little plant. I am offering it free for postage, but you have to tell me the best story (see the thread in the discussion area).

You should be able to tell me why I should give this healthy, very nice plant to YOU. If you think you have a better story to tell me (vs why you deserve the plant), OK go for that. This is meant for fun, so please post your story here for all to share.

I have pictures of the flowers and plant if necessary.

thanks,
Carolyn

RE: HAVE: Challenge: Free for postage plus best story: Dend aphy

Once upon a time, there was a very patient husband who accompanied his wife to all the orchid shows and carried her purchases without complaint. He built her a beautiful trellis for her orchids as well as a wonderful bench for her balcony so that she could see her orchids from her bedroom. He purchased a nice trellis for their front yard where he planned to hang his hoya collection but allowed his wife to take it over for her orchids. One day at an orchid show, he saw an orchid that he thought was the nicest one he had ever seen. It had long canes with lovely lavender flowers. The grower told him it was Dendrobium aphyllum. Knowing that his wife didn't grow Dendrobiums, he thanked the vendor and walked on but often thought about that lovely plant. He finally mentioned it to his wife, who said she would try to find one for him in the spring. . . and spring has sprung.

That's my entry, Carolyn. If you pick it, I'll be happy to send postage. This was fun. Thanks for thinking it up.

It was a dark and stormy night……………

when suddenly Jessica heard a noise………………………..

Slowly she made her way to the kitchen through the darkness. (Lights went out too – naturally)

To her horror she discovered a HAND!!

But not just a hand – A SEVERED HAND in her kitchen sink!!!!!!!!!!

She screamed (don’t they always), but then remembered the maid was coming the next morning and would clean up the mess. She went back to bed.

RE: HAVE: Challenge: Free for postage plus best story: Dend aphy

Once upon a time there was a little girl growing up in New York City. She saw pictures of flowers and wanted to grow her own but all she could grow was mud. No matter what she tried to grow she always ended up with mud.

When she grew up, she got her own apartment and the previous owner asked her to take care of her plants while she traveled. But since they were already in dire straits, it didn't really matter if they died. As it turned out, one of those struggling plants was a phalaenopsis and eventually sent out new leaves and the most beautiful white flowers. From that day on, the girl vowed to dedicate herself to the protection of all orphaned orchids and to give them a loving home.

Ok Carolyn.

The thing is I need more orchids and I have space to put them in so last month I went to our annual Orchid festival with very little cash and my check book to buy some more and when I get there I search for my check book which I might add am sure I put into my bag. All this was for naught because I didn't find it and there fore wasn't able to buy any but still had a nice time looking. The thing is that I found my check book at home because my DH had taken it out to make sure I didn't blow all my wages on Orchids. YOu know to say the least I am still mad at him. So now you know why I didn't purchase a Dend aphyllum or any other orchid for that matter.

Oops! I have to withdraw my entry. I thought this was the "Free Spam for a Year" contest. Plus I already have one of those.

Thank you all for such great stories! DH even got a chuckle out of them, which kind of leads me back to Marci's story- Any SO that will put up with our orchid loving lunacy and still continue to go to the shows, and help lug around the plants deserves a special thanks for their efforts. I know what it's like to have a patient and helpful sidekick who will support us in this habit of ours.

So Marci, please tell your DH that he has an D. aphyllum on it's way to him :) Look for an email from me-

Thanks again to all, I'll have another challenge in a day or so.
