RE: HAVE: Portia Gabazonia

Portia is a group of Cattleyas characterized by tall multiflowered racemenas and erect large bearing of the main plant. A massive, stately plant usually sold for twice the going price of Catts, $40.00 not uncommon for a small plant, I've seen $250 asked for larger plants. This one has purple/magenta flowers rising one foot above the crown of the leaves and producing 7 to 10 flowers per inflorescence. Google in Cattleya portia and you'll get a wealth of info. There is one for sale on Ebay for $79, no bids yet.

Which Pterostylis did you win? Most of them won't grow here in SOCAL as they need a cold winter.

Interesting plant, however I usually don't do too well with 'cool to cold' growing species as I hit 95 to 100 each and every summer and fall. Just went through a couple 90F days, didn't need sunscreen as the sun was blocked by all the smoke. I think I will pass on this cold growing terrestrial but am open to other suggestions.
