It is a mutation. Some of the big box phals have been bred and cross bred so many times the genes become confused...

Thank you for your replies. Do I just leave it alone or is there anything I should do? This is my first and only orchid. Totally fascinated with it. I'm thinking there will be more orchids coming to my house, lol.

Are you really sure that the object is growing on that particular segment of the flower. Perhaps it is just stuck there with the glue used to fasten the pollen on to the insect /moth or whatever (Could be a guy with a toothpick)
takes the pollen from one flower to another flower.

It appears to be growing there. It is not attached on the outside of the flower. I have done nothing with it but look at it.
