I just got two of these little guys and was wondering what they like? Are they like Tolumnias? Also, how do they like to be mounted?

If this is the plant I remember it to be, you might want to look at something else. I vaguely recall discussions here and on the other forum from years ago that say this plant tends to have a lifespan of about 5 years for pretty much everyone who grows it. I think CJ was part of that discussion, so hopefully she'll come and elaborate. I know shes tried them before. It might have been another plant I'm thinking of, but I'm 60% sure it was this species.

Wow, terpguy's memory is pretty good! The species is indeed short-lived in cultivation and in nature, but it is easy to propagate and quick to flower. Someone in our orchid society often sells flasks of it, with plants inside already in bloom.

It grows a lot like a Tolumnia, though I grow mine in a bit less light. I have them on little bricks of treefern, with a tiny pad of sphag, all attached with some fishing wire. Spikes are tiny and easy to miss, and they flower for me pretty much throughout the year.

Good luck!

Julie
