Jane I am so sorry ���", I bought a vanda from a shop a friend of mine sent me the picture of it, really pretty, after I sent the friend to purchase it for me to my dismay a few of the blooms came with it. I started to use phyton 27 on it and after that set of blooms were done and it bloomed again no more problems.you could try using it and see if it helps. This can be so very sad to wait on a plant to bloom only to see the flowers ruined. Hope you get rid of it.they also say a lot of fresh air circulation helps. Velleta

Thanks Velleta. I have tried 3 different fungicides but realize the plants need to be treated before the buds open.

Tonight, at my local orchid society, there was a discussion about it because it happens around this time of the year on plants growing outdoors. I knew the cool nights plus high humidity was the problem but I couldn't bring so many plants indoors. I don't have enough light inside to bloom anything.

The use of regular fungicides on blooms ruins the flowers. I did spray knowing the fungicide would probably cause more problems but I was upset at the loss of so many flowers, figured what did I have to lose.

Tonight the speaker said a very effective method is 1/2 tsp of baking soda to quart of water. Spray the whole plant area including the flowers. Baking soda changes the pH and prevents the fungus from spreading. Nothing will get rid of the black dots (maybe some baby-power).

I was hoping to hear from other warm zone growers to see if they ran into this problem in winter.

Here's a close up of the flowers. All are affected on a large plant with many blooms.

A speaker at my Orchid Society said, 1/2 tsp baking soda/1gal. water spray. I'm trying it as I'm afraid It will show up on other plants. It only attacks the blooms, not the leaves.

Are you sure that's a fungus problem? I don't think it is. It's something to do with watering dry roots.
