need help with Psychopsis

Hi! I bought a psychopsis mendenhall during the summer, and at first it started a few growths, but then the leaves that were growing seem limp and with a little curling and not as large as the ones it currently had. I have it growing with my phals so I water it similarly and fertilize lightly frequently. It's in bark. I'm afraid to repot it since they are supposed to be sensitive? Also there are just a few tiny white pitted spots on the leaves. (not mealy bugs) Any tips?

Give it brighter light than you give your phals and make sure it dries out between waterings. Psychopsis must dry or the roots will rot.

ok, I'll try it! Can you tell me: how often should they be repotted? when is a good time to so?

Greetings. I have four of these that have been growing quite happily for the past six years. My Mendenhall has had a least one flower in bloom always. As far as potting medium all of mine are in slotted clay pots in sphagnum moss. They are potted that way because I find that they need to be watered every seven days in that medium and in clay pots. I have tried different combinations in the past but the moss works out for me. I must say that one is also potted in a mixture of bark, charcoal and moss and it seems quite content. I pot mine every two years without ever running into any problems. I'm attaching a PDF file link on their culture that should be of some help to you. Happy growing. http://www.orchidaceae.com/techSheets/Psychopsis.pdf

Repot as INfrequently as possible! These HATE HATE HATE having their roots disturbed and will sulk when repotted...in most cases. Exceptions abound of course.

Wow, thank you for all the advice on the light/ potting medium/culture sheet and the NOT repotting!
Are there any comments about water quality? Could that be a factor? (I'm not sure about my water but my paph is doing fine)

During the winter you could melt snow. I do that on occasion. Spring and Summer rain water. When using tap water I usually let it sit for a week before using it. Like terpguy mentioned as with the potting exceptions abound. What works for one individual in one part of the country might not in a different. What I like about orchids is that they keep you on your toes. Have fun with your orchid.
