Cymbidium - Red Elf

Posted by arlenem z8 WA (My Page) on

A few years ago I was given several cymbidiums. They badly needed repotting and were not in very good condition.

One was lableled "Cymbidium - Red Elf". It is finally producing flowers this year and I can hardly wait to see them.

I have found Golden and Green Elf orchids but cannot find a picture of Red Elf on the internet. Is there really such an orchid or has it been mislabled?

Will it be OK in my greenhouse at lows of about 45. I am in the PNW, so I guess we don't need to worry about high temperature ranges at this time of year.

I looked on the RHS site of registered orchid names and Cymbidium Red Elf is not there. Sorry.

Re. the question of Temperatures. 45F low is fine.

Was it Cymbidium Red Elf or was it Cymbidium ???? 'Red Elf'?

Oops! I went out and looked. It actually said: "Orchid - Red Elf"! She just told me that they were cymbidiums.

It looks like a cymbidium but maybe I had better look at some other orchid groups.
