HELP please!!!! My orchid spike broke

Hi!
My fiance bought me an orchid for my birthday in july. This has been my baby ever since. I check it everyday and get super excited every time i see a new root or leaf. So you can only imagine how excited i was three weeks ago when i saw a flower spike. I had roots growing all over the place and thought it was time to repot. I took it to a nursery tonight and had this done. It looked so great. Well i got it home and started messing with it and my spike snapped off. There is still a little at the bottom coming out of the plant but thats it. Will it keep growing or do i habe to wait fior another year to see flowers?

This is my first orchid so i dont know much.

If the little bit of spike has a little bump or two you might get the spike to grow from there, otherwise you will have to wait till the plant grows a new spike.

Although this spike may be done the orchid still has the energy built up to flower. A spike may emerg elsewhere before another year.

Try a blooming fertilizer to help with regrowing a spike. I wait until after the blooming cycle to repot an orchid. There are a few good books out there to help you learn more about your orchid. Good luck with your orchid

The real answer is to buy more orchids. From one to 2, to 4 and so forth. Once you have 50, which the average person can achieve in a year, you should always have something in spike. Problem solved.
