How long do phals bloom?

Posted by chere 7 (My Page) on

I bought one from Costco about four months ago and it is still blooming and is putting on new bloom spikes. Only one flower has fallen off. Also I bought two phal from a place recommended on here and they were not suppose to be blooming age but they too have flower spikes coming up. I guess the window in my breakfast nook must be perfect for them. I really have to watch myself so I don't over water them.

Thank you.

True. Do not overwater them and make sure that the window you have them in is not giving them full sun or you will end up with burnt leaves. Usually the length the blooms stay healthy is determined, needless to say, by the conditions they are in. Cool temps at night help to lenghten the life of the blooms. Hope this info helps.

I'd say 4-6 months is pretty common. It can be a lot longer, depending on the size of the plant and the ancestry.

I have some bigger plants that have bloomed nonstop for over a year, they just keep putting on new flowers from the tip of existing spikes and throwing up new spikes. Some others took a three month hiatus before putting up new spikes, so they've been in spike or bloom more than 9 months of the last 12.

And I agree that your conditions must very good. Your ability to pick big healthy plants must be pretty good, too :)

It's awesome that you have such a good condition for your Phalaenopsis indoor. Mine bloom for anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. Obviously you know what you are doing but check out this page about Phalaenopsis orchid and the photos.

I swear this is true....my neighbour gave me a Phal in bloom. No tag on it or anything. Plain white. Very ordinary lookin as far as color goes. Nothing I would have picked in a store myself. As a matter of fact I would have probably picked ANY other Phal over this one, lol. But as the months went by, I couldn't believe how long the blooms lasted. Close to 12 months. Unbelievable. I never did really count how long, but it was well over 9 months. I kept saying to my wife, I can't believe this is still blooming.....
Cool.
