Slippers! My current favs! I'll talk mostly about phrags, because they really are my favorite.

Phrags (with the exception of a few) LOVE LOVE water, They do very well in bark or s/h media, and always in a tray of water. This is not for humidity, but for the roots. Most Phrags typically grow along streams or banks that are almost always wet. NOTE: There are exceptions! So know your plant! For example, P. caudatum requires a much drier root environment, although most hybrids of caudatum x [wetter parent] take on the wet loving characteristics of the wetter parent.

I grow under shop light style fluorescent lamps with CFLs as supplements. Phrags like a good amount of light, not required, for some, but preferred. But less than catt light. I grow and bloom many phrags, but not catts. (But catts like it drier that I am able to provide, but that's another thread - my inability to *not* water).

Some phrags GET BIG so be prepared for that as you choose which one to get. I am currently dumping plants to make room for (more?) (bigger?) phrags.

So, I have some in clay pellets in clay pots, some in bark mixes in clay pots, some in clay pellets in deli containers, ALL in trays of water, that I never let dry out. Seriously, before I go to work each day, I make sure that the trays have sufficient water.

Paphs - I currently like either stan type baskets or clay pots with a mix of tree fern, maybe CHC, sphag, small lava rock or clay pellet. A mix that it very open, yet somewhat water retentive. Not all paphs like this, so again, know your plant.
