Moth Orchid has mildew on roots and soil

Hello All,
I am new to Orchids (most house plants in general) My fianc gave me a moth orchid and it is thriving so I thought I would get another. Upon first inspection of the roots and leaves it looked healthy with lots of buds that needed to open still. Once I got it home and took it out of the plastic sleeve I saw a ton of mildew on the roots and potting medium. Everything I have read about them says to not repot while it is in bloom, is it ok to trim the roots that are not in the soil as long as I coat the ends with cinnamon? The buds are starting to open and the leaves have some wrinkles but they aren't sagging or turning brown or yellow. I have had it for 4 days and have not watered yet. Thanks in advance for your responses.
