How unusual is this? I have never seen one like this myself.

Hi, Tanie,

I don't know the name of the plant, but I know it is an Odontoglossum/Oncidium hybrid.

Upon closer inspection, I notice that there were two ovules fused together, thus there are two lips and more petals and sepal than a normal flower.

Me too, I never know exact name of my orchids since I buy them in the stores. They only put either Phal or Intergenetic tags on. It is very unusual to me too and the color is absolutely stunning! I hope the other buds will give you the same. In the middle the flower, there looks like owl's eyes looking straight at you!
