Sediria japonica roots growing through slits

I recently bought a S japonica. It is in a small pot with slits on the side, and roots growing through the slits. They seem fine - turn green when misted - but some are broken. What do I do when it is time to repot? break them off? (this is a novice question).

Try cutting the pot and if that doesn't work, put the whole thing into a larger pot. Don't cut roots off
