I will be coming to the Boston area the first weekend in August and was wondering if there were any orchid shows or orchid grower open houses going on then. TIA!

Unfortunately we no longer have any local orchid growers in the Boston area. If I'm mistaken someone PLEASE correct me :) If you are driving, I would suggest stopping by J&L Orchids in CT. Don't think there are any shows either. Show season doesn't really start until October. Sorry to give bad news. ~Jem

Here are two Massachusetts growers: http://www.aandporchids.com/ http://www.historicnewengland.org/visit/homes/lyman_estate_greenhouses.htm Both of these are in Massachusetts. A&P is south of Boston. The Lyman Estate is an interesting visit and is only about a 30 minute ride west of Boston in Waltham. They have an interesting display of orchids that are for sale. Everthing I've purchased there has grown magnificently. Good Luck. |

counselor4444 Check out this site also http://massorchid.org/ It's the needless to say, Massachusetts Orchid Society. Find New England Vendors on this site.

That's right! I had forgotten A&P. They're practically in RI, always have nice plants at shows. The Lyman Estate does sell orchids (best time to visit is during their orchid sales, but they always have a few things blooming). They aren't really an orchid grower though. The page that Donald was referring to is New England Vendors on MOS site. Please note that both DeRosa and Wickford Orchids have gone out of business. ~Jem

What about places in Boston itself to buy orchids? (Or just browse) Any flower districts? Street fairs? Other ideas?
