A Newbie on the Orchid forum, bought a orchid at Walmart over a year ago, the flowering stem just turned brown after flowering, How does one grow a new stem?or do I throw it away, it has grown leaves since but no stem..
Just water when it seems to need it and use 15 30 15 fert.
Thanks Jack..usually on the rose and amarylis forums..but not recently..

RE: regrowing flower stem

There is an annual cycle of growing a new flower stem from the base and then blooming.
Depending on the hybrid a new flower stem can start at any time but for many hybrids a new flower stem is initiated by a slight cooling down in autumn and the plant will bloom 110 days later.
There are some extensive notes in the FAQ section about re-blooming Phalaenopsis
