orchid naming: cycd. wine delight fcc/aos

This might not be an important question but I am curious about the difference between Cycd. Wine Delight FCC/AOS (the label of a plant I bought) and Cycd. Wine Delight 'JEM' FCC/AOS (which is what shows up when I search for it on-line). Is the first the grex of which the second is a cultivar which was equally worthy of honours?

Only divisions or copies of the clone 'JEM' should be labeled FCC/AOS. Other clones may or may not be awarded.
There is more information in the FAQ "what does all this name stuff mean"
but you should note the variation in flower quality that will occur every time the following crossing is made. Every seedling produced, though different will be called Wine Delight.
Seed Parent
Genus
Cycnoches
Epithet
lehmannii
Pollen Parent
Genus
Mormodes
Epithet
sinuataur
Could be fraud. Could be just a mistake.

'J.E.M.' is the only cultivar of Cycnodes Wine Delight to have an FCC/AOS. This award -- October, 1984.

My, my....tempus sure as hell does fugit!

The only Wine Delights I've seen are the JEM clone. I don't think I've ever seen a seedling offered (could be wrong though!) I'd be incline to believe this was a typo on the tag and you really do have Cyc. WD 'JEM'.

Thanks. I don't remember the name of the vendor, so I will wait until the next show and ask (if they show up).

I know of six Cycnodes Wine Delight cultivars which were awarded flower quality awards by the American Orchid Society. In addition to the 'J.E.M.' cultivar which won an FCC/AOS with 91 points, there was also a cultivar exhibited by Carter & Holmes in October, 1988 named 'Mendenhall' which was awarded an AM/AOS with 89 points. So close and yet so far...what a difference 2 points makes on the AOS judging scale! The other four also received AM/AOS awards with scores in the low 80s.
