| I have a question on mounting a Phal gigantea, how big should the mount be and what kind of mount should I use ? the leaf span on it now is about 6 inches and I know it won't bloom for a year or 2 so I would like to mount it soon to give it a chance to take hold on the mount
Thanks for any help you guys can give me Bear |

| Pulling it off a mount and remounting it is stressful. Mount it on a mount that will accommodate the adult plant, which of course is huge. When it blooms for you in 6 or 7 years you will be pleased with the proportionality of everything. Nick |

| The mount should be at least 12 x 12 to accomodate the eventual size. I've got two on tree fern and one on a cork slab. If you run the fibers left/right it will hold more moisture than having the fibers run north/south. My one complaint on the tree fern is a couple of my leaves wear away where they touch it. The cork slab will eventually help retain some of the moisture as the cork ages. I don't dislike it or prefer one over the other. This Phal takes and requires higher light than most Phals to get them to bloom. Good luck with it and remember, patience. Brooke |

| I've used tree fern and cork before, I have a small problem well not so small, I have med size parrot who love to hang out in plants, she won't eat them or even hurt them but she does love to chew on cork and fern bark, is there a hard wood I can use that will take her abuse, after 20yrs I hate to tell her she can't hang out in the plant room. Brooke, I have all the time in the world to wait for blooms and with plants I have more patience with them, than I do with most people, must be old age. Bear |

| I'm sorry I've never used any other mounting material for my giganteas so am out of ideas. Brooke |
