Broken paph spike

Posted by sanderling (My Page) on

This evening, my paphiopedilum got bumped and the newly-forming bud got knocked off the just-barely-emerged flower spike. I was much distressed to discover the injury as the orchid is the very first I got, as a birthday gift a few years ago, and I look forward to its re-bloom every year.

Will this bud re-grow or the plant put out a new spike, or will I have to wait until the next baby in the pot reaches mature size and blooms?

Thanks in advance!

You will have to wait for new growth to develop and put up a new spike.

Thanks - that's disappointing, but about what I figured. Fortunately, it has a few offshoots coming along.
