A compot is a group of (usually) baby plants potted in a single pot. Sometimes Nurseries sell compots at a discount to the price of single plants potted in their own pot.
I deflask Tolumnia into compots and grow them on for about a year before potting them on into single pots.
There are two deflasking methods...
Into media
Media intact
Beyond my typing skills to go into detail.

Maybe someone will tell you which Genera might be easy to de-flask. Also the number of years you might have to wait before you see the first bloom might be important to some .....an example Den. speciosum maybe 8 to 10 years.

Into media ....into potting stuff
Media Intact... The plants are taken out of a flask and the flasking media is left intact to feed the plants while (hopefully) the plants grow and their roots grow into regular potting medium as the agar dissolves.

So I believe I understand what's going on with all of this, then. I was thinking a terrarium covered with plastic except for an increasingly larger gap on one end would help with humidity. It's a ways off for me since it's cold here now but I like keeping myself busy once it gets to be too chilly to ship plants. :)
