Phalaenopsis: After Flowing, Now What?

| I have a phalaenopsis,(don't know what variety) that i have gotten to bloom (first timer). The blooms have now all faded,now all i have is a naked flower spike, what do i do with it? Do i cut it off, leave it on, please advise. |

There are two schools of thought on this. One,you can leave it alone until it turns brown then cut it off. Two, the possibility exists that it might not turn brown and you may get a secondary flowering that will not be as profuse as the initial one. It's the growers choice I'm sure others will post on this. I myself cut it off then dust it with cinammon. Happy growing. |

| Cut off the spike. It could possible put a few new buds but it's better to cut the spike to allow the plant to concentrate on vegative growth and next years spike. |
