Cedar rust and orchids?

I was told that I need to get rid of all the cedar trees around my greenhouse because they will cause rust and things to infect the orchids. I was told the black like mold or fungus that gets on the orchids is because of the cedar trees.
I am not exactly buying all this, and I have 50 acres so cutting down ever cedar is not going to happen. I could get rid of a few around the greenhouse itself, but is this really necessary and has anyone else ever heard about this??
Thanks a bunch. |

Bugs are everywhere....zillions of them just waiting to attack a plant not in the best of health or in unsuitable conditions.. Haven't a clue what sort of tree a "Cedar" is but i would surprised if it harbours any more bugs than any other sort of tree. Perhaps the real problem might be excessive shade on your green-house.

Rust is a disease or a condition, not an insect.

Bugs as in anything that could harm an orchid, fungus spores, bacteria, aphids etc etc.

I'm familiar with cedar-apple rust, a fungus that spends part of its life cycle on eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) and part of it on apple trees. It's among a group of similar fungi that can infect junipers and members of the rose family. Since these fungi require specific host plants, I don't think orchids could be in any danger of being infected by them.
