Switch from top to basal spike, normal?

So this is oncidioda Neils Christensen 'TOW'. As you can see this guy has a very well formed spike coming from the top of the pseudobulb, but just this morning I found an additional spike coming from between the basal leaves. In the past (last 3 bloomings, plus when I bought it), this plant has only bloomed from the top of it's pseudobulbs, never the bottom. Plus, this spike looks different, it's fatter and softer than the others are. I just noticed it because I went to pull a dead leaf off and saw that it had been trapped in the leaf that it's now on top of.

Anyone else had this happen? Am I dealing with a possible sport? Or is the parentage of this plant coming into play in a new way this year? It definitely got cooler temps than before.

Really curious to see how this plays out.. Plus this is spike 3 this year, normally I only get one, bonus!
