cataleya has bugs

Well not bugs exactly, but about 1/8 inch long thin white "lines". That's what they look like. Very tiny, thin and white and they jump. Lice maybe? My orchid is in bud and I don't know what to do about this problem. I would rather not transplant it right now. I am in Minnesota and brought it home from Fl. 3 years ago and this is the 1st bud it has produced. I have poured water through the bark (soil) and found them floating and jumping in the water under the rock the orchid is sitting on. Help is really needed. Thanks.

Might be springtails. I do not think they are harmful, though they can indicate growing conditions that might be too wet for a particular orchid.

Don't know what they are but soak them with a solution of 1 part any alcohol, 1 part liquid detergent soap and 8 parts water and they'll probably stop jumping.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will pour the alcohol, soap water through the planting medium and that should do it. Cause that is where they are. Is that right? Thanks again.
I turned the fan on and my orchid is in a sunny window so then it should dry out faster.

Just a follow up. In the water I use to water it I added just a drop or 2 of dawn dish soap and still do and I got rid if the "bugs". I think they were springtails. My plant is in full bloom, lavender with a dark purple edge and fragrant.

Sounds exactly like bois duval scale, to me one of the more insidious species

Jumping?? Sounds like Springtails.

Oops! Didn't see the jumping part, read too quickly. They are right, springtails :)
