Over the years there must of been a lot of wishing otherwise there would not be something like 100,000 registered hybrids and they are the ones that turned out to be worth registering.
I suppose the marketing forces determine what gets crossed with what. I'd like to see more cold tolerant Vandas on the market but perhaps there would be little demand for that type of breeding.

Here is a pic. of the blooms of Sartylis Blue Knob. Do not have a pic. of the plant which was rather large but grown without the comfort of a glass-house.
Have not seen many of these types of hybrid in 40 years of orchid growing though I do not belong to an orchid society purely devoted to Australian Native orchids.

There's a Vermont orchid vendor that sells cypripediums. I don't know if you could cross that with a tropical Paph. but they're both considered lady slipper orchids. Not very similar leaves or roots though. The Cypripediums there you rarely see in bloom but they grow in the wild they just hide under pine needles. Can't dig 'em up either- some law, but you can buy them. Temps there can go to about -30 farenheight.

Cooper, I think you mean Cypripedium. Those beautiful "Slipper" orchids native to North America.

Oops- yeah Cypripediums. Can never remember that one.
