too many roots and no blooms

I have 2 Phalaenopsis, one of them I bought over three years ago, the other was passed on to me almost a year later. Both produced an abundance of flowers for the first couple of years, so I thought whatever I was doing ( watering feeding, location) was right. But I have not seen any flowers for over a year now, the plants seem to focus on producing roots! In particular the one I bought, it has about 8 airborne roots 7 - 12 inches long, and roots growing from roots. I never re-potted the plants, after someone told me that its just another medium, not like giving fresh nutrient rich soil to some other indoor plants.
The plant that was given to me had produced one baby on a stem, I did not separate it soon enough, the connection between mom and baby ultimately dried up. Since then it only produced roots, but not as many and not quite as long as the other plant.
How do I get them to flower again?
Would really appreciate your help!

Maybe the plants are just about to produce new spikes seeing that it is winter there, that is if they are spring flowering types.
Read some of the Phalaenopsis threads on this page and describe your growing conditions. Perhaps the plants need a slight temperature drop or perhaps less fertiliser. Lots of perhapsers

Whoever gave you the info regarding repotting is wrong. Repot your plants. The roots are growing out of the pot because they are probably dead in the pot. At least, they are not happy.

Orchids should be repotted yearly unless they are growing in inert media, like rock, or in baskets.

In your zone, you Phals should be spiking. Please get some fresh potting mix and repot. They will reward you.

Hi, thanks for the info. I only read it now as I assumed these messages would also get sent into my inbox as they used to. Not any more....
I'll get some fresh orchid potting mix and re-pot after the holidays. Do I leave the roots as they are, long, tucked into the potting mix, or should I clip them?
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Don't cut healthy roots. Any dried or rotted roots should be removed.
