Phal blooms opening prematurely?

I am so excited that my 'Mount Lips' is blooming for the second time! I kept waiting and waiting for that first flower to open.. the bud was getting HUGE... and it finally did! But two more opened within a few days... The newest one is almost half the size of the first flower. Is that normal? Otherwise, what could be causing them to open before they're ready?

They are ready or they wouldn't open. The blooms will enlarge over the next few days. Eventually they will be as big as your first one.

I have a 2" seedling that decided to bloom. It produced a single half-sized flower. The purists will tell you not to let young plants flower, but why the hell not, if they have a mind to? I've never heard of a case of it harming the plant or preventing later flowering.
