If we do possess this sort of talent then no doubt it evolved during our earlier "real" jungle living years and has since been drowned out by today's modern "jungle".

Vgkg is onto something: if our intuitive survival instincts were allowed full reign, we'd never have ridden bareback that first wild horse or the first airplane. We would become nervous wrecks trying to survive the daily commuter runs. (Or maybe many of us are...)

Marshall's Nervous Wreck theory could explain the popularity of car steroes, cell phones and other forms of distraction seemingly necessary to override our innate good sense and complete the commute.

I have followed my intuitive survival instincts and live three miles from my job. If I don't ride one of the two bus lines that pass by within a few blocks, I walk. In 12+ years, I have driven to work zero times.

Wow Bruce. You'll be with us a long, long time. Have you thought about riding bike? I bike in good weather. My flimsy helmet helps me overcome my fear of being wiped out by a city bus.

I got rid of my car for 2 years while living on an island in Maine, miles from any stores, and 20 miles from the school I attended. My 2 children and I all opt to buy some good well built bikes instead of a new car...then winter came, we learned how to ride bikes in winter,too.

10 years later....Now I dont ride my bike and I am about 20 lbs heavier. :(
