Uh oh....deer & garden

I welcome all wildlife to my yard normally. I have sat here more or less all day watching 18 deer (yes 18!!!!) across the dirt road, on the ridge, in what used to be an old sheep field. They have come in to get corn I throw out for the turkeys and to keep the bluejays from the sunflower bird seed. I don't mind that but if all 18 of them come on my side I think I will loose most of the garden. With so many the live and let live may not work as I fear they won't respect my portion!!!

Guess I will have to set another fencing outside the first.

Then to get the skunk to move out from under the wood shed only 10 feet from the house!!

I guess this is one garden problem my standard "compost cures all garden woes" theory.

Hi,

You might want to check for deer proof landscaping ideas for your area. Yes, deer in different areas eat different things. Deer can jump quite high and you may not like the hight of the fence you would need to put in. I have the same proble -- deer, skunk and field mice. The skunk I will worry about later and make sur to sprinkle hot pepper seeds on the next fall bulbs I plant. As for the deer, I will plant herbs they don't like -- which is most of them -- ferns and sunflowers around my property this year. I am also thinking of lupins. I am hoping that these borders will discourage deer from coming into my yard.

good luck and if you have any ideas about keeping the mice out of my vegetable garden, I would appreciate knowing about it.
