Composite Decking Used for Raised Square Foot Bed

Posted by traspec Florida (My Page) on

My husband has just built a raised square foot bed for our organic vegetables (4' x 4' x 6"). He used the composite decking from Lowes.

Even though these decks claim to be non-toxic without harmful chemicals, I am very leery.

Does anyone know if there are harmful toxins that could leach into the soil? We all know that would counteract the benefits of an ORGANIC vegetable garden!

Thanks!

I know there are dioxins (a known carcinogen) found in all PVC-based materials, which includes composite decking. Personally, I would not be comfortable using it in my garden.
