There are more seed companies offering organic seeds now than ever before. Think it might be a movement? Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply offers a great amount of organic seeds (www.GrowOrganic.com). Also Territorial Seed Company (www.territorialseed.com) has both organic and treated seeds, with a large variety. Baker Creek is also an organic seed supplier, but my catalog is out on loan and I can't give you their web address. Pinetree Seeds (www.superseeds.com) has organic seeds, very reasonably priced, and in packets sized for the home gardener. I have ordered from all but Baker Creek and have been very satisfied with quality, quantity, and customer service. I'd recommend getting your order in quickly--gardening seems to be a growing concern (pun intended). |

I've ordered from www.heirloomseeds.com and have always been pleased. They a nice selection, and ship promptly. I've ordered from Peaceful Valley Farms too, but they tend to get back-ordered. They won't tell you this up front either. Last year they strung me along for weeks telling me my shipment would arrive soon. I ordered in January and it arrived in March. This was fine for most things but my onions got a late start.

I recently wrote a directory with links to organic seed companies if you want to check it out. I personally love the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange catalog you mentioned, though.

What are the dangers associated with seed, obtained in the conventional way?

Sudden instantaneous DEATH!!!! Just Kidding :D Most of the reasons surrounding the use of organic seed are about encouraging organic practices. There are many threads on this subject, but that is the short version and it is not entirely relevant to the OP. Hope this helps!
