Sugar to Kill Dollar Weed

Has anyone heard of this? I am going to try it in my veggie garden. The darn stuff has taken over my yard (which I don't mind so much) but I hate it in with the veggies.

I have read numerous other discussions, in many other places, where sugar did nothing to suppress "weed" growth. The article does not give any indication of how much sugar per area was used.

It says that the sugar reduces soil nutrient levels - which is fine for native plants, but how would that work w/ veggies?

If sugar controlled dollar weed, coastal citizens would be paying about $100 for a five pound bag. I'll bet that the fire ants will looooove it, though.

Your article states that sugar is purported to control ANNUAL weeds. Dollar weed is an evergreen perennial.
