Residual Pesticides on Cottonseed Meal or Hulls

Hello. I'm familiar with the benefits of using these as mulch or soil amendments. My question is this: I know that many pesticides are labeled for use on cotton crops that are not labeled for use on food crops (soybeans, corn, wheat, etc.). These can include systemic insecticides used only on cotton crops. Is there any danger of residual pesticides remaining on the meal or hulls, which could transfer to the soil and consequently the vegetables grown in soil which is amended with cottonseed meal? I'm not a strict organic vegetable grower, but I do try to practice it whenever possible. I mostly grow heirloom tomatoes and chili peppers.

I live in cotton country, which means that I'm not too far from a couple of gins. I wouldn't touch the cotton gin trash with a ten foot pole.

Cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops out there and much of what is grown "conventionally" is also Genetically Enginnered to be resitant to one of the most overused herbicides manyfactured. Cottonseed meal, which is loaded with large amounts of residual 'cides of all kinds probably is not something an organic grower should think of using.

It's not something that ANY grower should be using.

I also live in cotton country and also wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole! Many years the field across the road from us has cotton planted. It is sprayed at least twice as much as any of the other fields nearby.

Thanks for the input. Y'all have brought up valid points and underscored that I don't need to amend the soil with this stuff. I didn't even think about the Bt GMO, and potential persistance of that too.

Thanks for asking the question, paul, and thanks everyone for the answers -- I'd been wondering about this, too. Now I understand the market for organic cotton sheets, clothing, etc, too.
