planting current year in lasagna garden

I've read that a lasagna garden can be planted as soon as construction is completed and before the leaves etc have broken down. Are the plant roots able to derive nutrition as they spread throughout the leaves and grasses? What would be best vegetables to put in there? Would carrots grow crooked in this raw mixture? Thanks

You can plant as soon as the layers are down, or even before. the roots will be fine. I'm growing tomatoes in the tops of un-finished compost piles.

I dunno about carrots - they need deep loose soil if I remember correctly.

Yep.....carrots love loose soil and tomatoes too. Put that together by turning the soil, planting carrots random scattered planting and set your tomatoe in the center of the carrot patch. Mulch light lightly as the carrots grow. In a short this spot will look like the rest of your garden. Thin the carrots to three or four inches apart.
