Who is munching on the peas - X Post from Far North

Hoping for some help in figuring out who is munching on my peas, spinach & swiss chard - and what I can do about it. Some of the peas have been stripped down to an inch long stub.

This is the critter:

And this is the damage:

The bug in your hand is a lacewing. A beneficial insect.

The damage is from something else. Perhaps slugs or snails, if you have them in your area, or caterpillars. May need to go outdoors at night to check backsides of leaves.

My guess is flea beatles. Young seedlings during hot dry weather are very vulnerable.

That's a lacewing larva. The lacewing looks like a big green fly with lacey wings. Worth googling!

Don't think I've ever seen a lacewing here but I did Google it - an aphid's worst nightmare. Bring them on! Thanks for the ident.

Going to keep on looking to see if I can find the culprit. No slime trails so maybe not slugs. Cabbage worm, maybe?Apparently lots of similar damage to gardens in the area.

Ha - caught the little buggers in the act! Actually three of them, ranging in size from about 1/4" to 3/4" in size. Can you tell me what these are? Remedies?
Again, thank you!

looks like moth caterpillars or cut worms in the distictive curled in a C shape

along with another smaller caterpillar on the left

not too late to put foil collars on the stems or slip a round of toilet paper collar around each stem & push into the ground

you might be able to cultivate lightly around the plants and find all the hiding ones before putting on collars

I had problems with these very caterpillars earlier in the season. I controlled by hand picking, but they got my collards and a tomato plant anyway :(
