Garrrison Keillor and Lake Wobegon first introduced me to the expression 'putting in a garden'. I couldn't understand it at first. Surely the garden was there all the time, so how could you 'put it in'. Now I know better from these forums.

Just as 'front garden' and 'back garden' make little sense for us.
