I kind of doubt you will find certified organic seed for it. It's not really an 'economically important' plant so there likely isn't a lot of interest in obtaining a certification for growing it commercially.

The good news is that it's naturally repellent to insects so it's not likely those who do grow it for seed are bothering with pesticides whether certified organic or not. It would be difficult to use herbicides where it is planted without killing it so probably not much worry there either.

What horrible things will happen if you use ordinary seeds? Given the tiny size of a seed, how many nasty toxins do you think will be carried over into a full-grown plant?

Or is this sort a "visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation" sort of quasi-religious belief?

RE: A question please about Orgnic seed

You are most welcome here, Carol. It's an open forum. For the most part it's a nice place, but it does have it's flare ups from time to time.

I think you will find that there are lots of reasons folks choose an organic route and there always seems to be a 'war' between those who choose organics due to philosophical/ideological beliefs and those who are more empirical/science oriented and choose it because it's practical and works, but tend to go crazy at some of the things the more ideological folks say.

For the record I am in the empirical/science oriented camp myself, but that's neither here nor there really.

There have been past discussions here on the merits of organic seed and there doesn't seem to be any real difference between organic and conventionally produced seeds in terms of the resulting plant. There is an exception when it comes to plants treated with systemic pesticides where it is carried over into the seeds, but that's generally a rare thing for commercial seeds.

Having said that, there are other reasons one may choose to purchase organic seed and that is to support businesses who are supporting organic ideals. The more consumers demand organic seed, the more growers will need to grow organically to get good prices for their seed. That gets more into the philosophical area though ;)

RE: A question please about Orgnic seed

I'm a pretty hard core organic guy. When it comes to seed, personally, I get the organic stuff if it is offered. Otherwise I don't sweat it and get the non-organic stuff. As Jag notes above it doesn't really make a big difference in the seed if you will be growing organically the resulting plant will be organic by every standard I'm aware of.

RE: A question please about Orgnic seed

I didn't think I needed to explain why I was looking for the seed, just that I was looking, and was hoping some of you could direct me in the right direction to find it.But since you (most of you) are so darn nice,I will explain.
My daughter and her husband have started an Organic,Hand and Body Soap Company, they are producing a soap made with Lemongrass, and because it is Organic, they need Organic Seed,as it will be incorporated into the soap.
We have found people who embrace the organic way of life, are the nicest people, but some do carry a rather strict way of thinking,it is very important how the seed is grown, the life is in the seed, big seed,or small seed,if some think it is not important, have a look at the GMO seeds.
Thank you so much for all your answers,I do appreciate them, and it is nice to know this site is open to all of us.
Happy growing,
cAROL

This ebay seller claims to have organic lemongrass seed but only in lots of 50 which certainly isn't the bulk you were looking for.

If worse comes to worse, you can buy some conventional seed, grow that out organically and then harvest the seed yourself.

In the mean time, a quick google shows me that one can buy all kinds of dried organic lemon grass, lemon grass oil, and so on to use as your own crop matures. Working up that supply chain might be another source of organic seed.
