Alan Chadwick was one of the people who did the most to bring awareness of organic gardening techniques to the United States. Beginning in 1967, Alan created a series of demonstration and teaching gardens that proved to the world that organic methods can work better than conventional chemicals. Information about Chadwick and descriptions of many of his techniques can be found at http://www.alan.chadwick.org .

I don't know much about Chadwick, will look into it. Coincidentally, Scott Nearing also died in 1980, a great philosopher as well as gardener.

I'm not at all sure that i would refer to Alan Chadwick as a pioneer of Organic Gardening/Farming since he came on the scene after I was already practicing what Sir Albert Howard, Lady Eve Balfour, Friend Sykes, J. I. Rodale, Helen and Scott Nearing, Leonard Wickenden, and many others true pioneers taught me. Chadwick, as I recall, was considered at the time to be on the fringes, more into biodynamic methods.

I agree, by 1967 alternative gardening was well-established.

Nevertheless, Chadwick was clearly a very interesting character.
