The Garden Party

Mexican moth, a mystery to me

This large moth (hence the large picture - be forewarned) lit on our porch table in Punta Mita last week. It sat there without moving from about 6 P.M. until 10 A.M. Then it flew off. The colors were very subtle and beautiful. The wing height was around 2 inches, and maybe 1.5 inches from front to back (I didn't have a ruler handy). I thought at first it was a Black Witch, but now am not sure. Any ideas?

What a beautiful butterfly Ellan. The coloring is very similar to a black witch,isn't it? Would you say it was as big as your hand? Now you have my curiosity up.
